Joe Cox founded the PMA Bike Ride, a monthly "pizza party" to share food, love and positive energy with people who are out on the streets of Philadelphia and thankful for a couple of slices of pizza and some bottled water.
Joe works as a bike messenger and daily sees and interacts with folks who make the streets their home. After hearing about Rosa's Pizza restaurant in Center City offering free pizza to the homeless he was inspired, along with his faithful and ever-present canine companions, to start a regular bike ride where volunteers distribute pizza to anyone grateful for it.
This year the Bike Ride has expanded from Center City to include Kensington, under the Market-Frankford line. Kensington is infamous for rampant drug trade and deadly overdoses. We witnessed many drug deals while waiting for the pizza's to cook.
